• How many hours per week you worked

Expedited Specialist Registration Pathway
Please find following the registration process for GP’s who have completed their entire GP training in the following countries to be eligible for the Expedited Specialist Registration Pathway: UK (MRCGP), Ireland (MICGP and New Zealand (FRNZCGP):

1. Open an EPIC account with ECFMG, where you will be required to upload your passport, signature and passport, as well as your qualification images in the original language and English translation.  You are also required to nominate the AMC to receive updates on your EPIC verification progress.
2. Primary source verification. Establish an AMC portfolio, and upload your photo, signature and passport as well. For more information on the abovementioned processes, including the relevant links, please refer to the AMC website at  You must have an EPIC account with ECFMG and been issued with an EPIC number in order to establish an AMC portfolio.
3. Registration with the Medical Board – Expedited Specialist Registration Pathway:

5. Apply for your Medicare Provider Number. This can take 4 to 6 weeks.We will guide you at every step of the process, which will take about 4 to 5 months.

All GPs from other eligble countries have to apply for an assessment with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)

Registration process for International Trained General Practitioners/Family Medicine Doctors

If you are not eligible for the Expedited Specialist Registration Pathwaw, the RACGP is the specialist medical college for general practice and you will need to apply to the RACGP for a comparability assessment to determine if you are eligible for this pathway. This assessment will consider your specialist general practice qualification, the nature of the training, methods of previous assessment, general practice experience, continuing professional development (CPD) and continuity of practice.

If our assessment shows that you are substantially or partially comparable, then you are eligible to apply for the RACGP Practice Experience Program – Specialist Stream (PEP-SP).

To begin the PEP-SP, you will need to have an approved job offer so that you can complete six months of supervised general practice. You’ll also need to meet some education requirements and undertake workplace-based assessments.

English Language Skills Requirements Australia

Internationally trained GP’s or those who did not complete their secondary education in Australia, must provide evidence of their English language proficiency before registration can be granted in Australia.
